Signing In
To sign in to Protege X you need to enter the email address and password registered with your Protege X account, then provide a unique authentication code which is randomly generated by an authenticator app. This is known as multifactor authentication.
Requirements for Signing In
Before you can sign in to Protege X you need an account configured for multifactor authentication.
- You first need to be added as an operator of a place in Protege X.
- You will need an authenticator app for multifactor authentication installed on your mobile device.
- Then it's time to activate your Protege X operator account.
- Finally, you need to configure your multifactor authentication account on your mobile device.
Operator Account
To be invited to Protege X you must be added as a valid operator in the place you want to sign in to. You can be added by another authorized operator of that place, or by the ICT Customer Services team.
If your place does not yet exist, contact ICT Customer Services.
You can be added as an operator at multiple places, but you need to be registered with the same email address at each place in order to use a single Protege X account login. Alternatively, you can be added with different email addresses and use a unique Protege X account and authenticator app login for each place.
Authenticator App
An authenticator app provides a secure and convenient way to prove who you are. Protege X utilizes multifactor authentication with a second layer of identification for secure access. This improves security substantially by requiring entry of a randomly generated unique access code, in addition to your password, to verify your login.
You will need to download and install a suitable authenticator app on your mobile device. Any authenticator app of your choice will be compatible.
Downloading for Android Devices
- On your Android device, navigate to the Google Play Store.
- In the search bar, enter the description for your preferred authenticator app, or just search for authenticator.
- Select your preferred app, then tap Install.
Downloading for iOS Devices
- On your iOS device, navigate to the App Store.
- In the search bar, enter the description for your preferred authenticator app, or just search for authenticator.
- Select your preferred app, then tap GET.
Activate Your Account
After you have been added as an operator you will receive an invitation email to the address used in your operator setup.
Your account must be activated within 24 hours of the email being sent, otherwise the account will be locked. If this occurs you will need to contact ICT Technical Support to have your account unlocked.
-
Click Activate your account to follow the link to the Protege X authenticator activation page.
-
This page will prompt you to download an authenticator app and configure multifactor authentication.
-
The QR code displayed on the page contains your Protege X account authentication details.
-
- Open your authenticator app.
-
To link your authenticator app to Protege X you must add a new account by scanning the QR code.
-
Each authenticator app behaves a little differently, so consult the instructions for your particular app if you are not sure. Generally they will have a + icon or some other action for adding a new account, with an option to scan a QR code.
-
-
The authenticator app will activate your device's camera and display a frame. Aim the camera at the QR code on the Protege X authentication page. Fill the frame as completely and accurately as possible, and keep your device still for a few seconds to allow it to read the QR code.
If you are unable to successfully scan the QR code, click the Still having trouble? link on the Protege X authenticator activation page. This will display your Account Name and Secret key for manually creating your authentication account in the app.
- Once the app successfully configures your authentication account it will display the authentication code which you will use for signing in to your Protege X account. This is refreshed periodically.
- On the Protege X activation page, click Continue to finalize your Protege X account configuration.
- Enter and confirm the New Password that you will use for signing in to Protege X, then click Continue.
- Once this has been accepted your account is activated. You will be taken to the Protege X Sign in page.
Activating Your Account via Mobile Device
The instructions above assume that you will be activating your operator account on a PC or laptop and will be scanning the QR code displayed on the screen. Activating your account via mobile device is slightly different because you can't scan the QR code.
To activate your account via mobile device:
-
In your invitation email, tap Activate your account to follow the link to the Protege X authenticator activation page.
-
When the QR code is displayed, tap the Can't scan? Try this. link.
-
Depending on your operating system and device apps, you may be prompted to select your preferred authenticator app.
-
Your Protege X account authentication details will be passed through to the app to create your authentication account.
Be aware that Android and iOS (and even different versions) behave differently when using the Can't scan? Try this. link. Recent iOS versions now redirect to the Apple password manager and don't allow you to choose a different authenticator app. Operating systems may also change their response to this link in future without warning.
-
-
Alternatively, when the QR code is displayed, tap the Still having trouble? link.
-
Your Account Name and Secret key will be displayed. Use these to manually add a new authentication account in your authenticator app.
-
Signing In
Once you have configured your Protege X account and multifactor authentication, signing in is simply a matter of entering your identification details.
When signing in to Protege X you need to provide two forms of authentication to prove who you are. In addition to entering your operator account password you also need to enter the unique randomly generated code that is displayed on your authenticator app.
To sign in to Protege X:
- Go to https://na.protegex.cloud
- Enter your Protege X account Email Address and Password, then click Sign In.
- The authentication page will prompt you to Enter the verification code from your authenticator app.
-
Open your authenticator app. The code for your authenticated account will be displayed. Enter your code on the Protege X authentication page, then click Verify.
New random codes are generated every 30-60 seconds, depending on the app. If you take too long to enter the code it will refresh and no longer be valid.
Replacing Your Mobile Device
Your multifactor authentication account is specifically configured for and associated with your mobile device. It's a bit like the key to your front door; if you replace the lock the key will no longer work. The same applies if you replace your phone; you can't just install the authenticator app on your new device and carry on.
A good practice is to back up your authentication account, so that if you do lose or otherwise need to replace your phone you can easily restore your credentials to your new device.
See here for information on backing up and restoring authentication account credentials for the Microsoft Authenticator App.
If, like most of us, you didn't think you would ever need to worry about this, and now find yourself with a new phone and no multifactor authentication access, contact the Technical Support team and they will be happy to help you reset your account. You will then need to Activate Your Account on your new device before you can sign in.
Changing Your Password
Because your password is associated with your Protege X sign in, you can only change your password via the Sign in page. Your operator password is not stored in Protege X.
- On the Sign in page, click the Forgot your password? link.
- On the 'Verification is necessary' prompt, enter your sign-in Email Address then click Send verification code.
- A Protege X account email verification code email will be sent to your email address.
-
On the verification page, enter the Verification code supplied in the email, then click Verify code.
If you do not receive the code or have any issues with the code, click Send new code.
-
Once your email has been verified, click Continue.
Do not click Change e-mail. This is a default Microsoft verification option and will initiate a new verification process to reset your sign-in email.
- Next you will be prompted to enter the verification code from your authenticator app. Enter the code, then click Verify.
- After verifying your identity, enter and confirm your New Password, then click Continue. Your password will be updated and you will be logged in to Protege X.
Signing Out
To sign out of Protege X, simply click the operator icon in the top right corner and select Sign out.
If you do not manually sign out, Protege X will automatically sign you out 24 hours after you last signed in. This may occur sooner if your session token is reset or expires.
